If you would like to participate in the counter-demonstration offered by Georgiana please let me know and we can arrange carpooling. FYI : Georgiana Hart is the president of the Orange, NJ UU church, and one of the leaders of the Sidewalk English Learning program. Right now we have 3 people who want to go on the 28th -- and I am one of those 3....(lotsofsmiles!) -- but you know me, I live in hope.... Looking forward.... Love, May From: Georgiana Hart Date: July 11, 2007 2:47:53 PM EDT To: wallacer1 at msn.com; mbstaw at aol.com; karenstemp at aol.com Cc: jo sippie-gora sippie-gora , Ken Somolinos , david braham braham Subject: Fwd: July 28th Morristown Rally Dear Wally, May, Karen and Jo, I wanted to send you this in advance of a phone call later today. I really enjoyed meeting you all on Saturday morning, and teaching with Ken and a friend from our church earlier this week. I've really become attached to this feeling of productivity and the response of the folks from other countries and volunteers such as yourselves. The attempt of the mayor of Morristown to attack immigrants there--actually accusing them of physical assaults--is beyond the "pale". See the URL in Ken's letter to me. Friends of ours in NOW, high school students, college students and people from our church are planning to come out and counter-demonstrate. Would you consider joining such a counter-demonstration? As I understand it, one of the groups who highly advocates for immigrants--Wind of The Spirit--has long since planned their annual meeting for exactly that date and cannot attend. Therefore, it behooves the rest of us to take up the flag of humanitarian rights. I will call you and look forward as this provides me with the opportunity of speaking with you sooner than later! Thanking you, georgiana Begin forwarded message: From: "Ken Somolinos" Date: July 9, 2007 3:43:04 PM EDT To: luchahart at verizon.net Subject: July 28th Morristown Rally Hi GG, Thanks again for class today. I thought it went really well. You asked me if I had any pamphlets about an immigration event in Morristown on July 28th. I asked at work if people knew about this, and it wasn't really on the radar. I looked it up online, and I found the following article: http://www.dailyrecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070626/NEWS09/706260 01/1289/NLETTER I've also included the full text below. >From the looks of it, the event is anti-immigrant, not pro-immigrant. As such, I don't think its the kind of thing we should get the day-laborers to attend. Were you possibly thinking of a counter-rally? All I could find was the anti-immigrant rally information. Hope this helps. Ken Ken Somolinos M.P.A. ProAmerica Rally on Morristown to protest illegal immigration On Saturday July 28, 2007 beginning at 12pm the ProAmerica Rally on Morristown (New Jersey) will be held in front of Morristown Town Hall to protest illegal immigration. Organized by the ProAmerica Society, the rally's five key purposes are: (1) to demand respect for our society and respect for our laws from those who willfully remain here illegally and arrogantly demand entitlements that they have no right to demand; (2) to demand that irresponsible American employers and businesses stop hiring illegal aliens, because hiring them not only fuels the illegal immigration problem and hurts our country, but it also diminishes the human dignity of illegals by relegating them to an exploitable lower class useful only for their cheap labor value; (3) to oppose any efforts in Congress which would give amnesty to millions of illegals, and to demand that our government first and foremost secure our southern border before any other immigration legislation is passed; (4) to support the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency's 287(g) program, which enables local law enforcement officers to enforce U.S. immigration law; (5) to oppose racism and ethnic prejudice, promote human dignity, and advance American principles. The ProAmerica Rally is being held locally in Morristown as a result of Mayor Donald Cresitello being among the first mayors in the nation to apply to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency for participation in its 287(g) program in order to enable Morristown's local police to enforce immigration law. Speakers at the rally will include Morristown Mayor Donald Cresitello and Robb Pearson, founder of the ProAmerica Society. Other potential speakers are being invited as planning continues to swiftly move forward. For more information and updates visit the website of the ProAmerica Society at www.proamericasociety.org .
